Our Humble Beginnings

Midwestern Meat Locker LLC is a veteran-owned business located in western south Dakota. It is nestled in the heart of the little town of Newell. Located just 28 miles north of Sturgis SD, Newell is surrounded by great producers that take animal care and wellbeing very seriously. This enables them to buy direct from the farmers and ranchers responsible for each animal. And eliminate the need for extra handling and fees. Fantastic products, customer service, and reliability.

Ryan Dennis, the owner, was born and raised in western SD. Along with his younger brother, they boast a 5-generation family history on the home ranch. In 2020 Ryan started working as the lead butcher in Newell. TriCounty lockers were the business at that time. In a few months, the opportunity to lease the facility was presented and he and his wife decided to pursue it. On October 1st, 2020, the Midwestern meat locker was officially open for service. The following year in December of 2021 Ryan was able to purchase the building, tools, and name this and solidified the new establishment name. With a highly skilled crew and combined experience of more than 50 years, Midwestern Meat Locker is a great choice for all of your custom processing needs.

What Makes MWML So Special?

We are located within minutes of some of the highest quality meat animals you can find anywhere. If you’re looking for grain-finished beef with great marbling and good size, we have those. If you’re looking for grass-fed and or finished beef, we have those too. If pork is more your style, we have several area producers for that. Some with dirt pigs some with the more traditional rations. We even have one producer that deals exclusively in Mule foot pigs. If you have never heard of them, you should definitely look them up. Sheep and lambs are abundant in this area as well. Maybe you want something a bit younger and smaller or maybe you want a bigger lamb but don’t want the mutton flavor. Either way, we can help you out. Buffalo is a popular choice for those looking for a leaner option but don’t want the (old dry cow) butchered. There are hundreds of buffalo within 50 miles of our front door. That being said, arranging a butcher date for them can sometimes be more difficult.
